What is the Young Ambassadors programme?
First Story’s Young Ambassadors programme was developed in response to demand from students for a second year of support and opportunities, once their participation in our flagship Young Writers Programme comes to an end. We have designed an enriching three-part course that promises to develop young people’s leadership, events and mentoring skills, plus provide inspiring insights into creative careers.
Taking part in Young Ambassadors will platform your students’ talent, skills and achievements. It will activate youth voice, empowering young people to influence a culture of creative writing in their schools and communities.
Following a successful pilot, all First Story schools are invited to encourage alumni to continue their journeys. Inspiring Young Leaders launches in the summer term to coincide with anthology launches and National Writing Day, activities can be planned for other periods.
What is ‘Inspiring Young Leaders’?
Inspiring Young Leaders is an extra-curricular project that will equip your First Story students to devise, develop and deliver their own creative writing event in school. This could be an event for National Writing Day (21 June), to celebrate your anthology launch, or as part of end of term enrichment activities.
Participants will be coached to plan an inspiring creative writing event. Resources and support are available from First Story to help students develop and pitch an idea to school staff, before organising and staging their event later in the summer. Students will evaluate their event and reflect on learning and new skills acquired through the project.
By the end of this project, your students will have developed valuable leadership skills, from complex problem solving to time management and decision making.

Inspiring Young Leaders — registration form
Partner schools are invited to nominate up to three First Story students to take part in this project. Nominated students may be about to finish the Young Writers Programme, or have previously taken part in our provision. Students will need to be committed to undertaking this project and enthusiastic to continue their creative writing journey.
