Beverley Ward

Beverley Ward is an award-winning writer of fiction, poetry, spoken word and non-fiction. She’s the author of four books: Dear Blacksmith – A memoir of Love and Loss (Valley Press), Archie Nolan – Family Detective (a commission from the Donor Conceptions Network) and two writing handbooks for children and teachers which distill her thirty years’ experience of running writing workshops. She has also published work in several literary journals but is more commonly known as a facilitator and writing coach.

Beverley has a background in youth work, teaching and consultancy with young people and, in her twenties, she founded the Sheffield Young Writers Project (a workshop for teenagers). In 2022 she also founded The Writers Workshop (a community for aspiring, emerging and established writers in Sheffield).

Currently, she’s working on a novel, a second memoir, a poetry collection and a stage show. She recently placed second in poetry slams at Shrewsbury Festival of Literature and Huddersfield Literature Festival.

Beverley loves to help new and emerging writers to find their voices. She delights in working creatively with children and young people and also specialises in working in therapeutic contexts with clientele who are experiencing bereavement, trauma or other difficult life challenges. Mostly she loves to play with words and work with writing as a joyful, creative practice.
