Andrea Mbarushimana

Best known for her poetry and short fiction, Andrea has performed on BBC Radio’s The Verb and as a lead poet in the BBC Contains Strong Language Festival 2021. She’s Coventry Poet Laureate 2025-2027. Andrea’s work has featured in digital animations, on brick walls, in galleries and you can listen to it while walking along a river via the Overhear app. She has performed gigs all over England and in Ireland.

Andrea’s first mixed collection The Africa In My House (Silhouette Press, 2017) was followed by Fatbergs (KFS Press, 2021) and Chatbot (Hedgehog Press, 2025). With more than ten years’ experience of running creative writing workshops in schools and the community, Andrea has particular experience with refugee and migrant communities and with young people who have a learning disability and/or autism.
