Best selling novelist Tracy Chevalier is the latest high profile writer to support First Story as an Ambassador. She joins the celebrated YA author Patrice Lawrence MBE in the role, to help champion First Story’s work with young people and promote the pleasure and power of creative writing.
Tracy Chevalier FRSL is the author of ten novels, including the international bestseller Girl with a Pearl Earring, which has sold over five million copies, been translated into 43 languages, and made into a successful Hollywood film. Chevalier’s 2017 novel New Boy retells Shakespeare’s Othello, following four eleven-year-olds in a 1970s’ suburban Washington schoolyard, as love, jealously and betrayal threaten their friendships. Chevalier grew up in Washington DC and moved to the UK in the 1980s, where she lives in London and Dorset.
First Story does impressive things with young people, helping them to express their creativity without the worry of being examined for it! It would be wonderful if every UK school had a First Story programme. I am delighted to add my voice as an Ambassador to bring more attention to First Story’s essential work.
