Publishing Project

Spring term launch

Register your students by 19 May 2023, to begin producing a literary magazine.

Jump to registration form >

What’s involved?

The Young Ambassadors publishing module, in partnership with Hachette, will lead to the production of the school’s own literary magazine. The module resources will provide guidance on:

  • How to create and publish a literary magazine
  • How to market a literary magazine
  • Careers and routes into the publishing sector

By the end of this project, your students will have published a magazine of writing produced by the school community, celebrating creative writing in your school. Young Ambassadors will develop their understanding of the publishing sector and build skills needed for creative careers from effective collaboration to design, marketing and project management.

Once registered, lead teachers will receive access to resources to aid Young Ambassadors planning, and guide them through the creative decisions and practical considerations that they will need to take to publish a digital or printed magazine.

Young Ambassadors will take on the roles of editing, designing, producing and marketing the magazine, with access to printed and video resources from First Story and Hachette, and a one-to-one support session.

Please complete this form to register up to three former First Story students for this inspiring opportunity. The deadline is Friday 19th May.

What is the Young Ambassadors programme?

First Story’s Young Ambassadors programme was developed in response to demand from students for a second year of support and opportunities, once their participation in our flagship Young Writers Programme comes to an end. We have designed an enriching three-part course that promises to develop young people’s leadership, events and mentoring skills, plus provide inspiring insights into creative careers.

Taking part in Young Ambassadors will platform your students’ talent, skills and achievements. It will activate youth voice, empowering young people to influence a culture of creative writing in their schools and communities.

This year we want to provide Young Ambassador opportunities to all of our partner schools, including three optional modules, Mentoring, Publishing, and Inspiring Young Leaders alongside further opportunities for Young Ambassadors to get involved in school and First Story events.

Publishing Opportunity — registration form

Partner schools are invited to nominate up to three former First Story students to take part in this project. Nominated students may be about to finish the Young Writers Programme, or have previously taken part in our provision. Students will need to be committed to undertaking this project and enthusiastic to continue their creative writing journey by developing at least one of the publishing roles.
