First Story calls for a fair literacy education for all

19 April 2021 //  by First Story

Together with our partner charities Centre for Literacy in Primary Education, Driver Youth Trust and Fair Education Alliance, we’ve written to The Rt Hon Gavin Williamson MP, Secretary of State for Education.

We’re calling for long term, sustained funding for resources, interventions and experiences for all children and young people, helping them to build the key literacy and comprehension skills to thrive in school and throughout their lives.

We know that so many young people’s education has been hard hit by the pandemic and that it is really important to get the right kind of provision in place for their future.

Last year, we brought together a group of experts in the sector to think about what was needed. Now, we’re acting on that advice and consultation by writing to Government. First Story’s Young Writers Programme is a brilliant example of the kind of cultural enrichment programme that is so needed, especially as there is less on offer for secondary students.

You can read the letter below and here.
