AWARD 2ND PLACE IN THE PHILIP PYKE MEMORIAL PRIZE 2024
The world may label, stereotype, and confine,
But my spirit, steadfast, continues to shine.
I am more than a statistic, more than a trend,
I am the saga that endlessly transcends.
They judge by the cover, but fail to read,
The chapters of resilience, their blindness to concede.
They see my skin, but not the soul within,
A tale untold, where true stories begin.
In the dance of perception, where truths blur,
They judge, while I, in wonder, endure.
In the dance of existence, where hues twirl,
I am a young black woman, the author of my world.
So, judge not the cover, but the pages within,
For life’s narrative is more than just skin.
For in your gaze, I see reflections true,
As I wonder about the stories within you.
