Mark Haddon at the First Story Young Writers' Festival 2014

Young Writers’ Festival 2014

3 October 2014 //  by First Story

What an exciting month for First Story. Last week we launched the 2014-2015 programme with our Young Writers’ Festival 2014 – two days of inspirational talks and creative-writing wonders.

1,000 students, 40 writers, 60 volunteers & 1,000 books – plus we were treated to invaluable writing advice from John Berkavitch, Caroline Bird, Mark Haddon and Philip Pullman. We heard some beautiful testimonies from our First Story alumni, saw students fight over the bookstall to clutch the last copies of our writers’ books, and were impressed by the confidence of those who stood up in front of 500 people to read what they had written on the day.

With every year that passes, the First Story family gets bigger, and we could not be more grateful to all those who made this possible. A big thank you to our sponsors, donors, volunteers, writers, teachers and students!

Don’t forget to read this story which was written at the Festival.
