Becoming a First Story school
Thank you for your interest in bringing the Young Writers Programme to your school. Please read ahead before submitting an expression of interest.
We are a charity with a founding mission to support young people experiencing disadvantage and to tackle inequality of access and opportunity. To ensure we reach those who stand to benefit most from our provision, we work exclusively in non-selective secondary schools with a percentage of pupils higher than the national average eligible for free school meals.
Criteria
We currently only offer our provision to schools in Greater London, the East Midlands, Yorkshire and the North West.
We use Pupil Premium as a primary indicator of disadvantage and would expect at least 70 per cent of a First Story group to be eligible. In consultation with each school, we may also work with students facing other barriers to learning, such as low prior attainers (below level 3 at end of KS2) and/or speakers of English as an additional language.
Next steps
If we sound like a good fit with your school, we’d love to hear from you. Please complete the expression of interest form below and we’ll be in touch soon.
For eligible schools that haven’t worked with First Story before — or haven’t run our full Young Writers Programme before — we also offer a shorter ‘taster’ version of our provision, which can be delivered over a single term.
