Creative writing day at The University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University. See story
This First Story Connect event is a celebration of creative writing. Students will get a taste of the incredible heritage and current community inspiring creative writing across the region, and develop confidence in their own writing and creativity.
During the day professional writers will facilitate workshops and tours across the faculties at The University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University, supporting students to produce writing inspired by the sites, people and stories they encounter and their own unique experiences and perspectives. The day culminates in students sharing their work at Manchester Poetry Library, with the opportunity for their work to be part of the Manchester City of Literature exhibition and tour in June 2023.
Schools taking part will meet and work with a diverse range of writing professionals and be introduced to opportunities at both universities. The event will encourage participants to connect with each other as a community of young writers, with opportunities across the region and further afield, as well as building awareness of writers’ varied pathways and careers.
The event is free to attend for eligible schools. Schools will need to cover transport costs and staffing.
Register up to 20 students, and members staff, for this invaluable opportunity and get a taste of First Story’s approach.
Join us and partners as we celebrate 15 years of work in schools, with professional writers-in-residence supporting young writers to publish accomplished anthologies. We mark our recent launch in Greater Manchester, alongside the diverse partners and writers working in this UNESCO designated City of Literature.
